The current basic Kindle, introduced in 2024, is offered in black and matcha green. The leaked photos do not include the official names Amazon has assigned to the new finishes.

The relocation of the power button is the change most likely to matter to existing owners. Placing the button on the bottom edge means readers can press it accidentally when the e-reader rests on a table, a book or a pillow, putting the device to sleep. Moving it to the top right edge reduces that risk.

The images also show more rounded corners on the screen. WinFuture speculated, based on photos that appear to show the e-reader with a slightly recessed E Ink panel, that Amazon may sell several versions of the device with different display features.

The leaks do not cover the screen technology, storage capacity, battery life or price of the new model. Neither Amazon nor WinFuture has confirmed a release date.

Amazon typically introduces new Kindle models a few months before the holiday shopping season. The 2024 update to the entry-level Kindle was limited to a brighter backlight, a dark mode and faster page turns.

Pricing is unsettled. The 2024 basic Kindle launched at $109.99, but Amazon raised the price to $149.99 last month, citing what it described as significant increases in memory and storage component costs. Amazon has not said whether the next entry-level model will carry the higher price.
