Leaked S-1 Shows Anthropic’s Cloud Capacity Strain Ahead of IPO
A leaked S-1 reported by WSJ shows Anthropic facing cloud capacity constraints and huge spending plans amid steep losses.
The leaked document adds detail to figures previously reported by Reuters and the Financial Times, including the scale of Anthropic’s prospective cloud commitments. Even with that spending, the company says capacity remains insufficient. Anthropic is leasing its own data centers and working with third-party data center operators, but the filing warns that those operators have a “limited operating history,” which could make them less reliable than the major cloud providers.
The financial disclosures in the filing show Anthropic recorded an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of the year while generating $16.3 billion in revenue. Two customers accounted for about a fifth of sales during that period, according to the Wall Street Journal report. The filing also warns that Anthropic could be held liable for damages caused by harmful AI behavior in an amount that would exceed its available insurance coverage, building on previously reported catastrophic risk disclosures.
Last week, Anthropic told prospective investors that third-quarter revenue alone had reached $16.8 billion, up 45% from the previous quarter. The company is reportedly aiming for a November IPO. Anthropic did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
