Leaker: iPhone 18 Pro A20 Pro chip may get 7 GPU cores and faster RAM
Weibo diagrams suggest the iPhone 18 Pro's A20 Pro chip may gain a seventh GPU core and faster memory.
The diagrams, shared by Weibo user Fried White Rice, are not images of the A20 Pro chip itself but drawings of where the chip will attach to the circuit board. From the solder-ball positions and general layout, the leaker concludes that the chip will keep the current six-core CPU arrangement, with two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores. The L2 cache for the efficiency cores appears to increase from 6 MB in the A19 Pro to 8 MB, while the cache for the high-performance cores remains unchanged at 16 MB.
Reading the GPU configuration from the diagrams is less direct, and 9to5Mac notes that six, seven and eight cores were all considered. The leaker settled on seven cores as the most likely configuration. The same diagrams also point to a faster memory interface, although no specific speed is given.
Separately, Fixed Focus Digital has recently suggested that the A20 Pro chip will be 18 percent faster than its predecessor and about 30 percent more power-efficient.
9to5Mac says the Weibo account has a certain amount of credibility, but this kind of indirect inference is “very much a dark art.” The findings are plausible, it says, but should be viewed as informed guesses rather than confirmed specifications.
