Leakers claim HUAWEI's Mate 90 Pro Max will come in a special edition that accepts a detachable external camera with native 1x to 10x zoom, going beyond the sensor-less clip-on lenses sold for other phones.
According to Android Authority, which reported the claims, the add-on attaches to the back of the phone and supports native zoom from 1x to 10x. That sets it apart from the external lenses now sold for a number of handsets, which carry no camera sensor of their own and offer only a single native zoom level. Those lenses work by clipping onto a phone's existing telephoto camera and extending its native zoom range.
The Mate 90 Pro Max claims come from the leakers Digital Chat Station and Ice Universe. Digital Chat Station posted an image of the external camera, and Ice Universe shared what appeared to be a hands-on video clip, though without crediting the person who originally posted it. The claims have circulated on social media rather than through an official HUAWEI announcement, and the special edition variant has not been described in any company materials cited by the two leakers.
The reported accessory would be a DSLR-style add-on rather than a lens alone, since it is described as containing its own imaging hardware and covering a 1x to 10x native range. The external lenses already on the market depend on the phone's own sensor and processing, which limits them to the single zoom level built into the host camera they attach to.
Neither leaker gave details on the accessory's sensor, price, release timing or how it connects to the phone, and it is not clear whether the special edition would be sold as a bundle or whether the camera would be available separately. The Mate 90 series itself has likewise not been dated in the leaked material.
