Leaks Offer First Look at Apple and LG Smart Home Devices

Leaked renders show LG smart thermostat, deadbolt lock, and temperature sensor for Apple's expected smart home hub.

The leak follows a Bloomberg report published yesterday that Apple is collaborating with LG on a new collection of smart home devices and accessories. A reliable leaker known as “pdfu” on X revealed additional details about several of the products, The Verge reported. The renders appear to show the thermostat, deadbolt lock, and temperature sensor. Specifics about pricing and availability are not yet known.

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock will feature a keypad that “rotates to open,” according to the report. It also has an adjustable design intended to ensure that rotating parts do not end up touching a nearby wall. Its functionality includes automatic unlocking, tap to unlock, emergency power, adjustable light settings, and an alarm for when the door has been left open or unlocked. In addition to access codes and remote operability, the deadbolt lock will include a pair of mechanical keys that can be used as a backup.

The LG Smart Thermostat appears to have a streamlined circular design with a large display for the current temperature and other measurements such as humidity. Settings include adjustments for its “Far Sight Display,” brightness, and “calibrated temperature/temperature offset.” The thermostat’s Far Sight Display sounds similar to what Nest offers, according to The Verge. To help ensure an entire home is properly heated or cooled, an accompanying LG Temperature Sensor that can also measure humidity can be installed, providing the thermostat with measurements for other rooms. The sensor features a magnetic back for attaching to metal surfaces, an adhesive metal plate for more installation flexibility, and a replaceable battery with alerts when it needs to be swapped.
