Lemmo 3 cargo e-bike debuts with semi-solid state battery

Lemmo's first cargo e-bike, the Lemmo 3, features a semi-solid state battery with up to 180km of range.

The Verge reports that semi-solid state batteries are safer than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Their gel-like composition offers improved energy density with less risk of thermal runaway, which can improve range and longevity from a more compact battery that is unlikely to catch fire when left charging overnight in a home or business. The semi-solid state electrolyte is also described as stable when punctured in a crash. Lemmo claims the battery is 20 percent smaller and lighter while offering 30 percent longer lifespan. Once removed, it can power AC appliances up to 1000W and USB-C devices up to 66W, similar to Cake's now-defunct Osa.

The Lemmo 3 is marketed as an eSUV, but the heavy full-suspension cargo bike is intended to feel more comfortable on daily commutes to daycare, work and stores than on weekend single tracks. It weighs 39kg (86 pounds) with the 5kg (11 pound) battery installed. Instead of using proprietary accessories, Lemmo made the longtail compatible with MIK HD accessories, including child seats, bags and boxes that mount on the rear rack. It can handle a 200kg (441lb) total load, with 80kg (176lbs) supported in the rear and 20kg (44lbs) on the front rack.

A quick-adjust saddle and handlebar make the bike shareable among riders from 155cm (5 feet 1 inch) to 195cm (6 feet 5 inches). It has wide tires on a 24-inch front wheel and a smaller 20-inch rear wheel. A rear-hub motor produces 750W in the US, 500W in Canada and 250W in Europe, with up to 90Nm of torque. Lemmo says the motor and e-derailleur combine sensor data to feed an adaptive AI model that selects the optimal gear in real time. The motor can also be paired with a 3-speed auto-shifting gearbox and belt drive for flatter environments.

Other features include integrated lighting with turn signals and brake lights, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a USB-C port for phone charging, OTA updates, rear-facing radar and hydraulic brakes that apply stopping power to both wheels when one brake lever is pulled. Security features include embedded frame and battery locks and GPS/LTE tracking.

The Lemmo 3 has a Kickstarter teaser page that says "launching soon" for the EU, UK, US and Canada. A refundable deposit of €39.90 reserves the bike and locks in tax-exclusive pricing of €1,890 (about $2,155). Lemmo says retail pricing will climb well beyond €3,390 (over $3,800), with first deliveries targeted for April 2027.
