LG Adds DTS:X and Google Cast to Its Sound Suite Home Theater System
LG is adding DTS:X and Google Cast support to its Sound Suite system and expanding Wi-Fi and subwoofer options, while teasing an in-development Media Connect Hub for DTS:X devices.
The main addition is DTS:X support for the H7 soundbar, the centerpiece of Sound Suite. LG said the feature will give home theater enthusiasts additional ways to enjoy immersive, multi-dimensional audio from compatible content and source devices. The H7 also gains Google Cast support, allowing users to stream content such as music and podcasts directly to Sound Suite systems.
Sound Suite's multi-speaker design is also getting more flexible networking support. LG said the system now works with Wi-Fi 6 GHz networks and 5 GHz DFS channels, giving users more stereo and multi-speaker configuration options. LG is also adding support for dual W7 subwoofer setups for users who want stronger low-frequency output. Sound Suite is a premium system that lets customers choose select speakers individually to fit their space, place them where they want, and use Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology to make them perform well.
LG also teased a new Media Connect Hub for DTS:X devices that is currently in development. The company said it will enable DTS:X from compatible external source devices and further expand access to DTS:X content. Engadget noted that the description is vague, but speculated it could be a way to connect Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD disc players and other DTS:X-capable devices to the Sound Suite environment. No further details were provided, and the publication said more news from LG is needed.
The new software updates are already rolling out in some regions. LG said timing and availability could differ depending on location. Engadget reported that LG is known for soundbars and surround sound systems as much as for its OLED TVs, and Sound Suite is one of its more interesting products in that category.
