Li Auto Launches Redesigned MEGA MPV at RMB 509,800; CEO Declares MPV 'iPhone Moment'
Li Auto launched the redesigned MEGA flagship MPV at RMB 509,800 with new active chassis and driver-assistance technology, seeking to reset its position in a crowded premium MPV market.
The new car is sold in a single MEGA Home trim. The price is RMB 50,000 below the RMB 559,800 at which the first-generation MEGA went on sale in 2024, and Li Auto is keeping the rotating second-row zero-gravity seats that helped the MEGA Home lineup recover in 2025. The upgrade focuses on how a 5.3-meter-plus large MPV drives and assists.
The biggest change is underneath. New rear-wheel steering and steer-by-wire cut the turning radius from 6.2 meters to 5.5 meters, a level comparable to Li Auto’s i6 SUV. The new 800V active anti-roll Magic Carpet suspension, with dual-chamber air springs, dual-valve CDC dampers and an anti-roll bar that can act in 30 milliseconds, aims to reduce body roll and repeated sway in corners, lane changes and continuous bends.
The same anti-roll system enables what Li Auto calls “elephant greeting”: when a sliding door opens, the body tilts down 3 centimeters on that side within 1.5 seconds and the second-row seat rotates outward 45 degrees; when the door closes, the body returns to level.
For intelligent driving, the MEGA comes standard with two self-developed Mach M100 chips, four LiDAR sensors and a tri-color halo ring light. The new layout adds side and rear LiDAR coverage on top of the previous front-mounted sensor setup, and the Mach VLA 2.0 system is included. Inside, the cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm 8797 chip, a 29-inch 6K OLED front screen and a movable 21-inch 4K OLED rear screen.
The cabin keeps the lounge-like layout from the 2025 MEGA Home, allowing the second-row seats to rotate 180 degrees to face the third row. First-row zero-gravity seats are now standard and third-row seats gain ventilation, so all three rows are now heated and ventilated; second-row seats get floating cushions and soft pillows. The exterior retains its basic silhouette with a 0.215 drag coefficient, while the roof gains a 396-LED “HomeLight” lamp and the rear table can switch from small side tables to a single large table.
Powertrain and battery specifications are also largely carried over: dual-motor all-wheel drive, a 108-kWh ternary lithium battery with 5C ultra-fast charging, a CLTC range of 710 kilometers, and 10 minutes of charging for 500 kilometers of range. Li Auto also said a right-hand-drive version of the MEGA will enter Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Thailand by the end of this year, its first markets outside mainland China.
The launch resets a model that struggled after its original 2024 debut. The first MEGA, Li Auto’s first battery-electric car and first MPV, sold 3,229 units in its March launch month, 1,145 in April and mostly below 1,000 units in the months that followed. Li Xiang later acknowledged that the company treated the model’s 0-to-1 commercial validation as if it were in a 1-to-10 high-growth phase, a misjudgment of the pure-electric strategy.
The 2025 MEGA Home, with rotating seats and a living-room-style cabin, changed the trajectory. Li Xiang said in May 2025 that orders had significantly exceeded the plan and that steady monthly deliveries of the MEGA could reach 2,500-3,000 units. According to the report, the model became the best-selling MPV above RMB 500,000 in 2025, with a net promoter score of 81.8, and posted full-year sales of about 18,500 units, up more than 70 percent from the previous year.
Competition has since intensified. MEGA’s July wholesale volume fell to 336 units and January-July sales totaled 3,179 units, the report said. In the same month, the newly launched Zhijie V9 posted 10,101 wholesale units, followed by the Weipai Gaoshan PHEV at 5,815, Denza D9 PHEV at 5,441 and Voyah Dreamer PHEV at 4,855, based on China Passenger Car Association wholesale data cited in the report.
MEGA also has a different role inside Li Auto this time. The company has expanded its pure-electric lineup with the i8 and i6 models, and the i9 flagship electric SUV is scheduled for mid-September. The new MEGA is therefore positioned as a technology flagship that carries the latest chassis, battery, charging and driver-assistance systems before they spread to other vehicles.
Li Xiang says the industry logic has changed. Fuel-powered MPVs are constrained by engines and conventional mechanical layouts, he argued, while electric architectures create room for active anti-roll, steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering to solve long-standing conflicts between driving and ride comfort. “The MPV segment has reached the Nokia-to-iPhone turning point,” he said ahead of the launch.
