Little-known Dynamic Lyrics app puts time-synced lyrics on Apple CarPlay

The app is one of a number of third-party titles compatible with CarPlay. After a user connects a preferred streaming service, it shows lyrics timed to the track being played, a setup Engadget describes as seamless for Apple Music and Spotify users. The outlet noted the feature is suited to keeping passengers entertained on long drives, whether for rapping along to a full album or reading translated lyrics while listening to songs in other languages, and added that drivers should not take their eyes off the road to use it.

Permanent access is not free. Enabling the feature costs a one-time payment of $9.99, which users are asked to accept when they open the app. Before downloading, Engadget advises checking that the device has been updated to iOS 26, the version required to enable the widget on CarPlay.

Setup begins with downloading Dynamic Lyrics from the App Store. On opening the app, users are prompted to connect their streaming service of choice and, for Apple Music or Spotify, simply allow access. Spotify users must authorize the app through either a Default or a Custom method. Default authorization takes a single tap but may require repeated re-authorization over time. Custom authorization takes a couple of extra minutes and requires a Spotify Client ID, and the app walks users through the process.

The premium version of the app allows users to switch between themes and customize the CarPlay widget. Options include colored backgrounds in white, black or a gradient that shifts according to the album cover, along with two cover styles: vinyl or picture, the latter showing the full album artwork.

Once those choices are made, users go to Settings, then General, then CarPlay, select their car and tap the Widgets menu under Customize. Pressing Add Widget presents three options, two of which are titled Lyrics widget. After one is added, it appears in the widget stack as a small square, which can be enlarged by pressing on it for a bigger view of the lyrics.
