London Entrepreneur Releases Parrot, an Open-Source Mac Meeting Recorder With On-Screen Copilot
Uygar, a London entrepreneur, released Parrot, an open-source Mac meeting recorder that runs locally or with cloud APIs and includes a copilot that suggests answers from uploaded files.
Uygar said he runs his businesses on calls every day with customers, partners and suppliers, and that he has a bad memory. He built Parrot months ago with help from Claude, designing and coding it around what he needed for work. He said it worked well and helped him a lot.
Parrot records audio that a Mac hears. If users run local models, Uygar said, all data stays on the computer, with no account and no API calls. Users who want more capability and do not mind using the cloud can connect a Claude API and a Deepgram account, which he said gives Parrot more power. Even then, he said, the recordings remain local, but API calls are eventually required. The choice between local and cloud processing is left to the user.
The copilot feature is designed to support live conversations. Uygar wrote that users can upload files, and when Parrot hears a question, the copilot recommends an answer on screen. He called the feature handy for his own work.
After months of consideration, Uygar decided to share Parrot as open source. He said it is his first open-source project and asked users to be patient with him. The project has no account requirement, no membership and is free, he wrote. The code is available on GitHub under the repository turantekin/Parrot.
