Lyft rolls out Waymo driverless rides in Nashville
Lyft now offers driverless Waymo rides in Nashville, the first city where Waymo can be booked on both Lyft and its own app.
Riders can be matched with a Waymo when they request any Standard, Priority Pickup, Wait & Save or Extra Comfort ride. The option currently appears only for trips that start and end in Waymo’s central-Nashville service area, which includes Downtown/Broadway, North Nashville/Germantown, East Nashville, Midtown and South Nashville.
Waymo rides come at no extra cost, and passengers can opt out of driverless cars entirely or decline a matched Waymo if they prefer not to ride in one at a particular moment. Lyft says availability in Nashville will continue to grow over the coming weeks.
Waymo first announced plans to work with Lyft in September last year. The company had been testing its vehicles in Nashville since then, and it secured permission to operate them in the city without a human driver behind the wheel in February this year, Engadget said.
