‘Matchbox The Movie,’ Starring John Cena, Begins Streaming on Apple TV
Apple TV has added “Matchbox The Movie,” a John Cena action comedy inspired by Mattel’s toy line, to its streaming catalog, per 9to5Mac.
The film’s cast also includes Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson and Corey Stoll, among others. It held a special screening in Mexico City earlier this month ahead of its world premiere on October 5, and began streaming for Apple TV subscribers on October 9.
Apple TV’s synopsis describes the film as “an action-packed, globe-trotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (John Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.”
The release adds to Apple TV’s growing slate of action titles, which includes “The Gorge,” “Wolfs,” “Ghosted,” “The Family Plan” and, more recently, “Mayday.” The platform also carries series such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Studio,” “The Morning Show,” “Shrinking” and “Silo.”
Apple TV first released a trailer for the film earlier this year at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con. 9to5Mac noted that the trailer has been shown frequently to viewers using the service in recent weeks.
Apple TV is sold at $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. The service has leaned on original film and television programming as it competes with other subscription streaming platforms.
