McKinsey Tests AI Client Simulation in Entry-Level Interviews
McKinsey will test a 10-minute AI client simulation with some entry-level candidates this fall, The Verge reported, citing The Wall Street Journal. Human interviewers, not the AI, will assess candidates.
According to the Journal, the simulation “aims to reflect 80% of the scenarios McKinsey consultants might encounter in their day-to-day work.” It is not designed to “mimic an unhinged client,” the report said. The exercise is intended to place applicants in a client-like exchange rather than a conventional interview prompt.
The AI will not score the candidates. Humans will be in the room to assess candidates and see how well they deal with the simulated situations, according to the report. That leaves the evaluation with McKinsey interviewers rather than the model.
The test is limited to some offices and to entry-level business-analyst hiring, according to the account. The Journal said the simulation is meant to cover common consultant scenarios, and the company is keeping human assessors present as candidates respond to the simulated client.
The Verge reported that other companies are also building tools to use AI avatars as part of the job interview process. Hayden Field, a colleague at The Verge, tried some of those tools for a video published in March.
