MediaTek Unveils First Googlebook Chip, Dimensity CX C10 Max
MediaTek announced the Dimensity CX C10 Max, its first Googlebook processor, with specs closely matching its earlier Kompanio Ultra Chromebook chip and a promised premium Googlebook.
The announcement comes after Googlebooks have finally arrived, with devices powered by Intel and Qualcomm processors. No MediaTek-powered laptop was available at launch, but MediaTek has now revealed its first chipset for the category. The company did not disclose a launch window for a device using the new processor.
A review of the chip's specifications suggests it is nearly identical to MediaTek's previously released Kompanio Ultra chipset for Chromebooks. The Kompanio Ultra was itself based on the Dimensity 9400 smartphone processor. Android Authority reported that a cursory glance at the spec sheet indicates the Dimensity CX C10 Max is a variant of the Kompanio Ultra.
Both chips use TSMC's 3nm design. They share the same octa-core CPU layout, consisting of one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The only CPU difference cited is clock speed: the Dimensity CX C10 Max runs at 3.73GHz, while the Kompanio Ultra runs at 3.62GHz. The two processors also have the same 10MB system-level cache and 12MB L3 cache.
The new chip has the same GPU as the older Chromebook processor, an Arm Immortalis-G925 MC11. It also uses the same NPU 890 AI silicon. Both chipsets support Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
Beyond CPU clock speed, the Dimensity CX C10 Max differs from the Kompanio Ultra by offering slightly faster RAM speeds. Android Authority concluded that MediaTek's first Googlebook chipset is effectively a rebranded Chromebook chip with minor changes.
MediaTek said the Dimensity CX C10 Max will power an upcoming premium Googlebook. The company has not said when that device will launch or which manufacturer will build it.
