Meshy Launches Meshy Edit: One-Sentence Local 3D Model Editing Powered by New In-House AI Model

Meshy releases Meshy Edit, letting users circle a region on a 3D model and describe changes in one sentence to generate a new model in about a minute, with unselected areas unchanged.

After a model is generated, creators often still need to adjust parts of it, such as removing an accessory, adding a detail or trying a new look. Previously such changes were typically made in one of two ways: regenerating the entire model, which also alters the parts the user wanted to keep, or editing manually in professional software such as Blender, which requires long-term modeling skills.

Meshy Edit reduces the process to two steps: select an area, then describe the change. Users can use a lasso tool to circle a whole component, with the selection covering the front, side and back of the model at once, or use a brush to paint visible surfaces and fine-tune the edges of the selection. After selecting, the user describes the change in one sentence, such as "remove the hat," and can attach up to five reference images to clarify the intent.

Each edit generates a new model while the original is preserved intact. The new model can be edited further, downloaded, or sent directly to slicing software for the 3D printing workflow.

Meshy Edit is aimed mainly at two groups. For 3D printing users working on figurines, tabletop miniatures, designer toys and cultural creative products, it supports removing or adding parts and swapping accessories, after which the model can be printed directly. For game developers and character creators, once a character is finalized, a prop or accessory can be swapped to quickly produce multiple versions without changing the character itself.

Meshy's paid performance among individual users has also been corroborated by third-party data. On October 5, venture capital firm a16z published the seventh edition of its Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps report, adding for the first time a Top 50 ranking by monthly revenue. The ranking is based on U.S. consumer card spending data tracked by YipitData, so it directly reflects actual user payments. Meshy placed 31st, alongside creative tools including Midjourney, Suno and Runway, and was the only AI 3D company on the list.

For paying users, time is the most direct cost. Manually changing a detail in Blender can take hours, while Meshy Edit takes about one minute. Parts the creator is satisfied with are kept as they are, allowing attention to focus on the details that matter.

Meshy Edit is now available to all registered users, with each edit costing 20 credits. The feature currently supports high-precision models generated by Meshy 6 and Meshy 7.1; if a model is textured, the system automatically switches to an untextured version for editing. Users can find the entry point in the "Edit" button at the bottom of the model preview window or in the post-processing section of the printing module.

Meshy was founded by MIT PhD Ethan Hu and develops its own AI 3D generation foundation models, releasing its first Meshy model in 2023. Users input a sentence of text, a photo or a sketch to obtain a textured, directly exportable 3D asset for games, film and television, AR/VR, product design and 3D printing. As of September 2026, Meshy had more than 15 million registered users worldwide and had generated more than 100 million models. In July 2026, Meshy completed a Series B round of nearly $400 million at a valuation of $1.5 billion; in September of the same year, its annual recurring revenue exceeded $100 million.
