Meta launches Meta One subscriptions combining social media and AI
Meta launched Meta One bundles globally, adding AI usage and premium social features for $7.99 to $499 a month.
For individual users, Meta is offering Core at $7.99 a month and Premium at $19.99 a month. Both include Instagram Plus, WhatsApp Plus and Facebook Plus, plus more media generation through Meta AI. The Verge reported that the bundles are a few dollars cheaper than paying $11 a month for all three standalone subscriptions. TechCrunch reported that subscribers can use Muse Image and Muse Video to generate pictures and videos, edit Instagram Stories with the AI-powered Restyle feature, and use voice effects and creative tools more often. Premium offers more AI usage than Core.
For creators and businesses, Meta introduced four Meta One tiers: Essential at $14.99 a month, Advanced at $49.99 a month, Expert at $149 a month and Max at $499 a month. The Verge reported that these tiers also include Meta's individual app subscriptions. Essential includes tools to manage a presence, more access to Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp to respond to customers around the clock, a verified badge, a verified channel on the WhatsApp Business app and impersonation protection, pending successful verification. Advanced adds features such as scheduling stories up to 30 days in advance, links in organic posts and Reels, exportable analytics, deeper audience insights, team access without sharing a password, more linked devices and more business broadcast credits on WhatsApp. Engadget reported that the Advanced business plan for Instagram also includes the ability to embed four clickable URLs into post captions and Reels each month. TechCrunch reported that Essential and Advanced also introduce an enhanced profile that showcases a creator's or business's website, locations and reviews, a bold follow button on Reels, and follow invitations automatically sent to people who engage with their content. Expert and Max offer the highest levels of feature access and Meta Business Agent capacity. Engadget reported that Max also offers an unlimited ability to request support from a human and the option to request a phone call with a real person who works for Meta. TechCrunch reported that benefits, pricing and availability may vary by region, app and account.
The new subscriptions follow Meta's March rollout of subscription tiers for its top social apps. Those plans include Instagram Plus at $3.99 a month, Facebook Plus at $3.99 a month and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 a month, which let users access extra features such as profile customizations, super reactions and story insights. TechCrunch reported that market intelligence provider Appfigures found Instagram's daily worldwide revenue averaged $1.2 million as of the week of Sept. 9, while Facebook's daily revenue reached $528,000, increases of 475% and 143%, respectively, from the prior week. Appfigures also said U.S. users accounted for 32% of Instagram's revenue and 39% of Facebook's revenue after the plans gained traction on Sept. 9, roughly 10% above each app's historical U.S. baseline.
Meta is tying the subscription push to its AI ambitions. TechCrunch reported that the plans are meant to help Meta monetize its Muse AI models, following its 2025 $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI, which brought Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang to Meta to lead its AI efforts. Meta says it plans to expand the bundles to include Edits, AI glasses and more over time. TechCrunch reported that Meta will soon introduce Edits Plus, which will provide more cloud storage for syncing projects across devices and additional usage of the Edits AI assistant. Meta also plans to add more agent skills for end-to-end marketing, business operations, content creation and optimization.
Engadget reported that Meta says its early subscription plans have gained more than 15 million sign-ups for subscriptions and trial subscriptions. TechCrunch reported that BNP Paribas forecasts Meta's subscription push will add $13.5 billion in revenue by 2028, while Truist estimates the company could add $20 billion in revenue by 2030.
