Meta's Project Phoenix Headset Leaks Ahead of Connect, Looks More Like Chunky Glasses Than a Quest
Images found inside Meta's HorizonOS Prescription Lens app appear to show the rumored Project Phoenix headset, which looks closer to thick glasses than a traditional Quest device, weeks before Meta Connect on September 23.
The images do not show the complete device, but they indicate Phoenix will not follow the Quest formula. From the angles visible, the headset resembles a pair of chunky glasses rather than a conventional virtual reality headset. Glasses-style nose pads appear to hold it in place, and what look like sensors sit around the temples. The arrangement is similar to that of XREAL Aura glasses, which use a comparable setup.
A separate compute puck is also visible in the leaked images, suggesting Meta has moved processing hardware off the headset itself. That approach would differ sharply from the all-in-one design of the Quest line, in which the battery and computing components sit inside the headset.
Android Authority reported that the leaks leave significant gaps. Phoenix has not been seen properly from the front, nor shown worn on anyone's face, so its size, appearance and overall design remain unresolved. The images offer no indication of weight, field of view, display technology or price.
Meta Connect opens on September 23, and the company may be preparing to discuss the device there. Meta has not commented publicly on the images or confirmed that Project Phoenix exists.
