Microsoft and Nvidia take the stage in San Francisco to pitch local AI on laptops

Microsoft and Nvidia will detail RTX Spark, a platform for running AI models locally on laptops, at a San Francisco event.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Windows and Surface chief Pavan Davuluri are scheduled to hold what the company describes as a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time, or 1 p.m. Eastern.

According to The Verge, which is covering the event, Microsoft and Nvidia have been working together on the RTX Spark platform, focused on boosting local AI models, creative apps and gaming on a series of new laptops. Nvidia's GPU expertise is being squeezed into machines such as the Surface Laptop Ultra, and the event is expected to show what those systems can do.

The RTX Spark line sits apart from Microsoft's earlier Copilot Plus PC initiative, which was aimed at consumers. The new platform is designed for AI developers and creators, and the event is likely to frame Windows and RTX Spark laptops as a challenge to Apple's MacBook Pro.

Microsoft has also spent this year working to fix Windows 11, with performance and reliability a priority as the company prepares to support RTX Spark. The blog said more detail on that effort is expected at the event.

Ahead of the presentation, The Verge's live blog did not include specifications, pricing or release dates for the RTX Spark laptops. The event is being streamed, with the outlet providing updates as it happens.
