Minecraft to Get First New Dimension in 15 Years With 'The Sift' in 2027
Mojang announced at Minecraft Live that The Sift, Minecraft's first new dimension in more than 15 years, will reach Java and Bedrock Editions in 2027 after debuting in the Dungeons 2 spinoff on September 29.
The announcement was made during the Minecraft Live event on September 26, according to Engadget, which reported that the last new dimension was The End, introduced with the 1.0 release in late 2011.
Mojang did not describe The Sift in detail. The studio said some of the new areas inside it will include the Meadows and the Carapace. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted a teaser video of the dimension on X, showing part of the new environment and a mob found within it. According to Xbox, the dimension will contain new mobs that can serve as companions or as threats. The company said only that there will be "new rules to learn" when it comes to gameplay changes.
Players who want an earlier look at The Sift will find it in Minecraft Dungeons 2, the sequel to the studio's dungeon-crawler spinoff. That game is set to release on September 29, roughly a year before the dimension reaches the main game.
In the same X post, Sharma wrote that more than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day, and that the game has sold more than 425 million copies in more than 17 years.
Mojang also reiterated that Minecraft will arrive on Nintendo's Switch 2 on October 27.
