MIT Technology Review Examines AI Extinction Risk as Eye-Reversal Therapy Reaches Human Trials
MIT Technology Review will host a September 15 roundtable on whether advanced AI could destroy humanity, while reporting that geneticist Yuancheng Lu’s reprogramming therapy, which restored vision in blind mice, has entered human clinical trials.
The roundtable will feature MIT Technology Review executive editor Niall Firth, senior AI editor Will Douglas Heaven and AI reporter Grace Huckins, according to the publication. The eye research centers on Yuancheng (Ryan) Lu, a geneticist described by MIT Technology Review as obsessed with aging and with eyes. Age-related blindness runs in his family, and his own 23andMe test came back with a mutation for macular degeneration, a top cause of vision loss in old age.
