Most Pixel owners wouldn't pay for AI features on older phones, survey finds

An Android Authority poll shows 82.5% of readers think paying for AI on older Pixels is a waste, with only 6.8% willing to subscribe.

One commenter, identified as ronaldlbailey, said: "Yeah, AI isn’t anything I am even remotely interested in using, much less paying for." The sentiment reflects a broader resistance among legacy Pixel owners to the growing emphasis on AI-powered capabilities.

However, not all respondents shared this view. Just over 10% of those surveyed said they would rather buy a new phone to access the latest AI features, while only 6.8% indicated they would subscribe to an AI service if it allowed them to keep their current Pixel for longer.

The findings highlight a potential challenge for Google as it continues to roll out new AI tools that require newer hardware. Many older Pixel devices, though still supported with software updates, are left out of these AI advancements. An Android Authority writer, who owns a Pixel 8, noted that they feel no pull toward newer phones, partly because they barely use existing AI features.
