Mouse Computer's 981g X2 Laptop Packs Ryzen AI, but Stays in Japan
Mouse Computer has launched the 981-gram X2 laptop with a 12.2-inch screen and three AMD Ryzen AI processor options. Sales begin in October in Japan only, with prices from ¥239,800.
The X2 measures 277.1 mm wide, 210.2 mm deep and 19 mm tall. Its 12.2-inch panel has a 1920 by 1200 resolution and reportedly covers 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut. The laptop has a 180-degree hinge, a 60 Wh battery, a 500 GB NVMe SSD, and one empty SODIMM slot. That slot lets buyers upgrade memory from 16 GB to 32 GB, although both advertised configurations ship with single-channel memory by default. A compatible 16 GB DDR5-5600 module currently sells for around $229 through Amazon, according to the report.
Mouse Computer offers three AMD APU options. The base model uses a Ryzen 5 216 with two Zen 4 cores and four Zen 4c cores in a six-core layout; online benchmark comparisons cited by TechRadar place it near AMD's Ryzen 5 8540U. The mid-range Ryzen AI 5 340, part of AMD's Krackan Point lineup, also has six cores. Multicore results suggest it lands close to Intel's Core Ultra 7 165H and edges past the Core Ultra 5 325. The top configuration uses a Ryzen AI 7 350 with eight cores split evenly between four Zen 5 and four Zen 5c units. Early comparisons cited by TechRadar put it close to Intel's Core Ultra 9 185H in combined multi-threaded and synthetic benchmark scores.
Connectivity on the X2 includes gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-A ports, HDMI output and a microSD card slot. A 2 MP webcam with a privacy shutter supports Windows Hello. Windows 11 Home is preinstalled on every unit. Battery life is rated at about 12.5 hours during video playback and about 25 hours in idle mode under JEITA 3.0 standards.
Pricing is confined to Japan. The Ryzen AI 5 model with 16 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage costs ¥239,800, or about $1,545. The Ryzen AI 7 configuration has the same memory and storage allotment and costs ¥259,000, or about $1,670. The laptop comes in Cosmo Blue, Frost Gold and Pearl White.
