Mozilla launches built-in ad blocking for Firefox on iOS
Mozilla has launched a built-in ad blocker for Firefox on iOS, blocking third-party ads and trackers while leaving first-party ads and sponsored content untouched.
The feature uses Apple's WebKit Content Blocker technology and the EasyList filter to block ads, meaning users do not need to download and install a separate extension. It is controlled in Firefox's iOS settings and is disabled by default. Users can enable it from Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker, or toggle it on and off during a browsing session from the site menu.
Not every ad will be blocked. Mozilla says ads served directly by a website and ads shown in search results will still appear. Sponsored shortcuts and other sponsored content shown by Firefox when a new tab is opened will not be blocked either.
This is the first time Firefox has gained ad-blocking support on iOS, but rival browsers already offer similar support. Brave, Vivaldi, Opera and others have built-in ad blockers on iOS.
