Mozilla Launches Firefox Enterprise; Nvidia to Push DLSS 5 Update on Oct. 16

Mozilla released Firefox Enterprise for organizations needing digital sovereignty, while Nvidia said a faster DLSS 5 model will arrive Oct. 16. Doubao moved to open screen automation permissions, 8BitDo launched a new controller, and Microsoft ended support for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro.

Mozilla said Firefox Enterprise is intended to meet demand for digital sovereignty, especially in Europe. It emphasized that Firefox runs on Gecko, which Mozilla describes as the only independent major browser engine, giving organizations another way to reduce reliance on a single architecture. The product combines Firefox with a management console that organizations can run on their own infrastructure. Through the console, IT teams can centrally manage browser policies and access rights, control how data moves through the browser, and set limits on AI use. Firefox Enterprise will launch in Europe, with initial sales focused on France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland before expansion to more markets. Mozilla said it is also developing an enterprise version of Thunderbird.

Nvidia said the new DLSS 5 model will double the performance of the September debut version while reducing 4K gaming VRAM use by 20 percent and maintaining similar image fidelity. Compared with the first technical demonstration in March, DLSS 5 has achieved a cumulative 10-fold performance increase, according to the company. The update reduces model size by 24 percent, to about 118 million parameters. It will first be applied in NBA 2K27 and supports GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, RTX Spark laptops and the GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform. On Oct. 23, Nvidia plans to add the new DLSS 5 model and a frame-generation performance mode to RTX Remix, its modding platform for RTX PCs that uses technologies such as path tracing to improve classic games. Nvidia has provided preview builds to some modders for testing. It also released a new beta version of the NVIDIA App, adding a new frame-generation performance mode for GeForce RTX 40 series and RTX 50 series graphics cards and RTX Spark laptops.

Doubao Phone Assistant said on Oct. 14 that the 30-day public comment period for its Screen Automation Execution Protocol had ended and that it would gradually open screen automation permissions for third-party apps. Developers can still refuse at any time, and Doubao said it will promptly close related operations. Apps that have explicitly refused will not be operated on by the agent. Doubao also published an updated list of refusing apps, saying that multiple apps from Alibaba and Tencent as well as several banking and financial applications have explicitly refused operations.

8BitDo introduced the Ultimate 3C+ wireless controller. It features force-adjustable Force Ring TMR joysticks and vibration motors built into both the grips and triggers. The controller has linear and tactile dual-switch triggers, R4 and L4 small shoulder buttons, PR and PL lockable back buttons, and a D-Pad that provides fine haptic feedback. It weighs 240.5 grams, has a wider grip angle for improved comfort, and comes with a cardboard DIY controller stand in the box. It supports three connection modes and uses 8Speed wireless technology with a 1 kHz polling rate. A 500 mAh battery provides 20 hours of battery life in 2.4 GHz mode and 32 hours in Bluetooth mode, and the 2.4 GHz receiver can be magnetically stored on the back of the controller. It is available in Frost White, Stealth Black and Avocado Green and is priced at $39.99.

Microsoft said on Oct. 13, its Patch Tuesday, that support has ended for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro, Office LTSC 2021, Visio LTSC 2021 and Project LTSC 2021. Because Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro do not have an Extended Security Update program, Microsoft recommends that users upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 or Windows 11 26H2. Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education have a 36-month support cycle and will be supported until Oct. 12, 2027. Microsoft also said the 2021 LTSC versions of Office, Visio and Project will no longer receive updates. For upgrades, Microsoft recommends Microsoft 365 or Office 365; Microsoft 365 apps provide continuous updates for Word, Excel and PowerPoint on desktop, mobile and web under the Modern Lifecycle Policy.
