MSI Codex Z2 and Aegis R2 both $200 off for Prime Day, but Codex Z2 offers better value
MSI Codex Z2 and Aegis R2 are $200 off for Prime Day; TechRadar calls the $1,399 Codex Z2 better value for most buyers.
The MSI Codex Z2 is priced at $1,399, reduced from $1,599, while the higher-spec MSI Aegis R2 is $2,269, reduced from $2,469, according to TechRadar. That leaves an $870 gap between the two systems. TechRadar said they target different budgets, but spending more does not necessarily mean getting better value, and it framed the decision as whether the Aegis R2 provides enough extra performance and capacity to justify the higher price. TechRadar said the Codex Z2 is its choice for most buyers, while the Aegis R2 makes more sense for shoppers who want the faster graphics card, more memory and twice the storage.
The Codex Z2 combines an AMD Ryzen 7 8700F processor with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB graphics card, 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD. It also includes Wi-Fi 6, USB-C connectivity, four cooling fans and Windows 11 Home.
The Aegis R2 steps up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 265 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of graphics memory. It doubles the Codex Z2's memory and storage with 32GB of DDR5 and a 2TB NVMe SSD, while also offering Wi-Fi 6, USB-C connectivity, four cooling fans and Windows 11 Home.
TechRadar said both desktops use air cooling with four case fans, three at the front and one at the rear, plus customizable RGB lighting. Both also provide USB-C, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, Ethernet, HDMI and multiple USB connections, and MSI includes a keyboard and mouse with each system.
In its assessment, TechRadar called the Aegis R2 unquestionably the more powerful of the two but recommended the Codex Z2 for most buyers. The Codex Z2's Ryzen 7 8700F, RTX 5060 Ti, 16GB of DDR5 and 1TB SSD produce a balanced specification without pushing the price beyond $1,400, the publication said.
TechRadar said buyers should choose the Aegis R2 instead if they are prepared to spend another $870 for the higher-tier RTX 5070, Core Ultra 7 265, 32GB of memory and 2TB SSD. It described the Aegis R2 as the clear performance winner and said it provides more headroom for gaming and demanding creative tasks.
