NASA Posts More Than 800GB of Artemis II Data, Images and Audio Online

NASA published over 800GB of Artemis II science data, including more than 11,000 photos and videos, 8.5 hours of audio and crew-annotated images of lunar impact flashes, The Verge reported.

Among the annotated images is one marking the spot where the astronauts saw impact flashes on the dark side of the Moon. The archive also contains footage of the Artemis II crew telling the ground team in Houston about the flashes they observed. Impact flashes had been recorded before, but the ones the crew reported on the dark side of the Moon could have been the faintest ever observed with the human eye, and the crew's excitement is audible in the clip, The Verge reported.

NASA released the material alongside three documents intended to accompany the raw archive: the Artemis II Preliminary Lunar Science Report, the Artemis II Lunar Science Operations Report and the Artemis II Lunar Science Data User Guide. The Verge described the posted material as a trove of unfiltered data that gives an unprecedented view inside the mission.

The Verge reported the size and contents of the release; the outlet's account did not specify how long the data will remain available or whether further files will be added later.
