Netflix defector finds unexpected loyalty in Apple TV
An Android Authority reporter who dumped Netflix a year ago found Apple TV to be a surprisingly satisfying replacement, citing price and sci-fi shows.
The reporter, who described himself as a former Netflix loyalist, said he grew frustrated with the platform due to price increases, password-sharing crackdowns, frequent series cancellations, and the splitting of new seasons across two months. After canceling, he tried Prime Video and other services but found them unsatisfying. He craved high-budget, story-driven content, especially science fiction, which led him to reconsider Apple TV.
In South Africa, where the reporter is based, Apple TV costs R124.99 (about $7.70) per month, while Netflix Standard costs R179 (around $11) and Premium costs R229 (around $14). Disney Plus also costs R179. He noted that platforms like Paramount Plus, Peacock, and HBO Max are not available locally, and HBO content is no longer accessible at all, leaving Apple TV as a comparatively reasonable option.
The reporter said Apple TV’s growing library, including shows like Foundation, and its now-competitive price convinced him to subscribe. He added that it is the first time in a while he has felt happy with a streaming app.
