New Apple Watch to use microphone and sensors for AI daily recaps
Apple is expected to announce Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 with an opt-in AI feature that uses microphone, GPS and sensors to generate daily recaps, according to Bloomberg.
The feature does not store audio recordings and does not present transcripts. According to Gurman, users can choose to have it run all day or only in certain locations, and the generated recaps will be stored inside the new Siri app. The feature will be opt-in, and Apple is expected to highlight its privacy-preserving design compared with other AI wearables.
The idea is to let users avoid manually writing down their activities, with the AI automatically remembering events and conversations. Users might then be able to use Siri’s AI personal context features to ask about what they did or follow up on details. Some consumers remain wary of always-listening devices, but Apple’s version will not keep audio recordings or transcripts.
Bloomberg indicated that the feature will require last-generation watches with new chips that can securely process incoming audio samples. Apple’s event starts at 10 a.m. Pacific Time today and is expected to include the foldable iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and other announcements.
