New indie games roundup: Darkest Dungeon DLC, BioShock-style shooter Twisted Tower, and more

Red Hook Studios releases a new Darkest Dungeon expansion, while Twisted Tower and other indie games arrive; plus Sony controversy.

According to Engadget, the expansion, titled Darkest Dungeon: The Fire's Edge, is available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PS4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch for $7. It brings two heroes from the sequel, The Runaway and The Duelist, into the original game, adding a unique burn ability, new trinkets, three districts and fresh town events. The base game is on sale until September 1 on Steam and August 27 on PS4.

Twisted Tower, developed by Atmos Games and published by 3D Realms, is a horror first-person shooter set in an abandoned 1950s theme park. Players battle hellish versions of mascots with upgradable toy-based weapons, including a rubber-band pistol, a chain gun that fires bubblegum and a "fartin' shotgun." The game shows a heavy BioShock influence, with vending machines for upgrades. It is available on Steam with a 10 percent discount until September 1, priced at $15.

The Lantern of the Laughless Saint, from NerveLabs, is an early-access platformer with randomized controls, available on Steam with a 10 percent discount until August 24, usually priced at $20.

Other news from the indie space: Ternox Games claims Sony blocked a PS5 version of its stock market game STONKS-9800 and is delisting previously released titles. Developer Sraëka Lillian has released 31 experimental RPG sketches on Itch. Co-op cult survival RPG Join Us, featuring a gun that fires snakes, is due in March. Truck-kun is Supporting Me From Another World?! arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 14.
