New Pixel VIP Widget Revealed Ahead of Wide Rollout
Google’s September 2026 Pixel Feature Drop includes a redesigned Pixel VIP widget. Android Authority manually enabled it, showing single-tap call and text actions, a full-width layout, and a changed single-contact setup before Google flips the server-side switch.
According to Android Authority, Google announced the Pixel VIP widget updates without sharing screenshots or images. The widget remains part of the Google Contacts app, and the new version is available in the latest version of that app.
The redesigned widget adds single-tap quick actions for calling or texting contacts and enforces a full-width layout, Android Authority reported. If a user selects more than four VIPs, the widget reverts to its old layout.
The setup flow for a single-contact widget has also changed. Adding one now adds the contact to the user's VIP list and opens a dedicated VIP sheet, rather than taking the user directly to the main contact details page, according to Android Authority.
The new widget was not active during Android Authority's testing, and the publication had to tinker with it to get it working. Users will have to wait for Google to flip a server-side switch before they can use the redesigned widget on their Pixel devices.
