Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak brings YouTube to the console
Switch 2 jailbreak used to run YouTube via open-source VacuumTube, Android Authority reports.
Hajhamid, who goes by pepsipu, released the first-ever Switch 2 jailbreak, according to Android Authority. The release has since led users to test the exploit on the portable system. YouTube is not supported on the Switch 2, and the jailbreak has allowed at least one user to add the service.
X user @byizmysh managed to get YouTube running on a Switch 2, Android Authority reported, citing Wccftech. The service reportedly runs on the open-source VacuumTube project, which uses the lightweight YouTube on TV experience. The report did not say how stable the setup is or whether it survives a reboot.
Android Authority also reported that two Switch 2 game files and RomFS archives are reportedly being dumped: The Duskbloods beta and assets from Mario Kart World. A homebrew developer has reportedly created an untethered Switch 2 exploit, a step beyond the initial jailbreak. The report did not provide technical details about those claims or independent confirmation.
The YouTube demonstration is one of the first visible uses of the Switch 2 jailbreak. Android Authority described the release as the first-ever jailbreak for the system and noted that activity has moved quickly since the exploit became public. The report did not say whether the YouTube method has been released publicly or whether it is limited to the user who demonstrated it.
The Switch 2 does not offer YouTube support, despite being a portable device. VacuumTube is described as an open-source client that uses the lightweight YouTube on TV experience. The demonstration shows that the jailbreak can be used to run an app that Nintendo does not provide on the console.
