TechRadar Review Calls ClearNym Effective for Family Data Removal

TechRadar reviews ClearNym, a data removal service with a 14-day trial, family plans and custom deletion requests.

ClearNym offers a Personal plan at $30 per month, the review said. It covers removal from more than 336 data broker sites, weekly rescans and re-removal, and monitoring for phone number and house address exposure, with alerts if either is found on a public site. A Family plan costs $50 per month and provides the same features for five users; TechRadar said that would total $150 if each member paid individually.

The Extended plan costs $100 per month for 10 users and adds custom removal requests to data broker sites not included in ClearNym's native coverage, according to the review. ClearNym offers a 45% discount on monthly pricing when users pay annually. For example, the Personal plan costs $198 for a year instead of $360 at the monthly rate. TechRadar advised paying annually if users can afford it.

ClearNym also offers a 14-day free trial, the review said. Users can cancel before the trial ends without being billed. The review cited a 28-day refund window that includes the 14-day trial, but said requesting a refund requires back-and-forth with the sales team. Canceling the free trial is easier if users are not satisfied.

Setup requires creating an account and entering a full name, email address or phone number, plus a location to narrow search results. ClearNym then runs a deep scan of more than 336 data broker sites. TechRadar said the scan usually takes a few minutes but can take longer depending on the volume of data found. When the scan finishes, ClearNym shows the number of sites where data was discovered. The review said the free trial includes a few data removal scans.

In a test, TechRadar entered a random name, William Smith, and a random location, Atlanta, Georgia. ClearNym found 1,950 profile matches. TechRadar said it did not use its actual name because repeated tests and reviews had already led to deletion requests and because a scan of its credentials turned up so little data that it would not effectively demonstrate the platform's work.

After data is found, ClearNym can send removal requests, but there is a condition: users must formally start the free trial to send requests, and payment credentials are required to activate it. TechRadar said users are not billed until 14 days after activation and can cancel anytime before the 14th day. The review also said a refund after payment requires some back and forth with ClearNym's sales team.

ClearNym supports automated and manual removal requests. Automated requests are sent quickly to any of the more than 336 brokers covered by the service, and users can monitor each request from a dashboard and receive email alerts when a request is successfully processed. Manual, or custom, requests are reserved for Extended plan users, TechRadar said.

TechRadar's verdict said ClearNym is effective for family use and particularly good for custom deletion requests, while automated requests also work well. The review listed areas to improve, including a need for more self-help support resources. It also noted that the service is less popular than some of the best data removal services TechRadar has tested but remains a notable name in the category.
