NordVPN's PriceMice extension exposes hotel booking price differences by country
NordVPN released free Chrome extension PriceMice to compare AI-tracked hotel rates across countries, helping travelers avoid location-based surge pricing.
PriceMice was announced on Sep 9, 2026. A room priced at $200 when booked from the U.S. can cost considerably less when booked from another country, the report notes. Finding the lower rate usually requires switching a VPN from country to country, but PriceMice presents a full list of countries with the price available for each, making it easier to spot the cheapest booking location. The extension focuses on the final checkout price inclusive of taxes and fees.
To test the extension, Android Authority searched for a hotel room in Tokyo. PriceMice found that switching the booking location from India to Taiwan would save about $120. The tool is available as a free download from the Chrome Web Store and is compatible with Chromium-based browsers.
The report cautions that because PriceMice relies on AI to track and match prices, it may provide inaccurate information. NordVPN also says the extension may not detect local taxes and property fees. Users are advised to double-check booking details before switching to another country and completing a reservation.
