Nothing OS 5.0 built on Android 17 announced, but older phones won't get the update
Nothing unveiled Nothing OS 5.0 based on Android 17, featuring a major design overhaul and new Glyph tools, but Phone 1, Phone 2, and CMF Phone 1 won't receive it.
The platform update also introduces Android 17 features such as split notification and Quick Settings panels, cross-platform Quick Share with iOS, and enhanced privacy indicators. Open Beta testing for the Nothing Phone 3 begins on Tuesday, August 26, 2026, with a full stable release expected in mid-October. The announcement was made via an X post and a detailed breakdown on Nothing's community forums.
However, the update will not be available for older devices. Nothing has confirmed that the Nothing Phone 1, Phone 2, and CMF Phone 1 will not receive the update. The company did not provide a specific reason for excluding these models.
