Nvidia's GeForce Now Coming to Steam Machine by End of 2026

The Verge reported on the announcement, noting that the Steam Deck already supports GeForce Now. Nvidia also said that additional Fire TV Sticks will be supported, and GeForce Now subscriptions will be available directly from Amazon. The service has just launched on the Firefox browser, and DLSS 4.5 brings Super Resolution, dynamic Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction for improved image quality in ray-traced games.

The addition of GeForce Now addresses a key limitation of the Steam Machine. Valve's compact PC sacrifices graphics power to keep its size and noise down, so demanding AAA titles often do not run well locally. As one Reddit user put it, the idea is to 'play the AA games on the [Steam] Machine and the AAA games with max graphics via GeForce Now.'

However, the combination comes at a cost. The Steam Machine itself is pricey, and GeForce Now requires a paid subscription. Some have called the setup a nightmare on that basis, though for those who already own the device, streaming offers a way to access nearly any game in the living room without upgrading hardware.

The alternative is to build a more powerful Steam Machine clone, but that brings its own compromises. Regardless, GeForce Now gives Steam Machine owners more options, something Nvidia and Valve are clearly hoping will boost the platform's appeal.
