Nyrius ships $99.99 Phoenix Prime 4K30 wireless HDMI kit, capped at 30fps and without Dolby Atmos
Nyrius has launched the Phoenix Prime 4K30, a $99.99 wireless 4K HDMI transmitter and receiver kit that carries video up to 50ft through walls, but it tops out at 30fps and omits Dolby Atmos, DTS, HDR and low-latency gaming support.
The kit moves 4K video between devices without Wi-Fi. It comes in two versions: an HDMI-to-HDMI model for connecting AV receivers, cable or satellite boxes and compatible laptops to any HDMI-equipped television or projector, and a USB-C to HDMI model for laptops, tablets and desktops whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, a feature TechRadar describes as common on machines from the leading brands.
Nyrius quotes a range of up to 50ft / 15.2m through walls, floors and ceilings, and up to 150ft / 45.7m where there is no obstruction. The system operates on frequencies between 5.1GHz and 5.8GHz and switches automatically among nine channels to maintain transmission quality.
The lower price brings a lower specification. Where the Phoenix Prime Home runs at up to 60fps and supports 7.1-channel audio, Dolby Atmos, DTS and HDR, the 4K30 is limited to 30fps and carries none of those audio or high dynamic range formats. Both 4K30 models also have 90ms of latency, which TechRadar says makes them a weak choice for gaming.
TechRadar notes that the trade-offs are not necessarily disqualifying. For buyers who want 4K in a room that does not suit a conventional cabled installation, who need to deliver presentations or show video on other people's projectors, or who simply want to avoid running cables, the $99.99 price is described as reasonable for fuss-free connectivity, and the stated 50ft range should cover most homes, offices, classrooms and lecture theatres.
The Phoenix Prime 4K30 is on sale now through Nyrius.com and Amazon.
Editor's Summary
Nyrius has added a cheaper wireless 4K HDMI option to its line-up, the Phoenix Prime 4K30, at $99.99 / £83.21 in HDMI-to-HDMI and USB-C to HDMI versions, with up to 50ft of range through walls and no Wi-Fi required. The kit gives up 60fps, Dolby Atmos, DTS, HDR and low-latency performance in exchange for the lower price, positioning it for presentations and cable-free rooms rather than gaming or high-end home cinema.
