Official Refurbished Channels Updated for 2026 Back-to-School Season

Apple, Samsung, Huawei and others updated official refurbished channels for 2026 back-to-school, adding new models and adjusting prices.

Apple remains the benchmark in the refurbished market. Its official refurbished store currently offers Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods, HomePod and some accessories. The Mac lineup includes M4 and M5 chip MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, as well as the MacBook Neo released in March 2026. For example, an 8GB RAM and 256GB storage MacBook Neo is priced at 4,699 yuan, about 15% off the 5,499 yuan new model. A Mac mini with M5 chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is listed at 6,399 yuan, while a MacBook Pro with M5 chip and 16GB/512GB costs 11,499 yuan. iPads, however, do not include the latest M5 models, following Apple's practice of avoiding competition with current products. The Apple Watch Series 11 and SE 3 are available in refurbished form, with a 42mm black aluminum Series 11 GPS version at 2,499 yuan, roughly 83% of the original price. Refurbished iPhones are still not sold on Apple's official Chinese mainland site, and the report warns consumers against unofficial third-party listings.

Samsung has expanded its refurbished phone sales channels beyond WeChat, JD and Taobao to include Douyin. Its flagship S26 Ultra (12GB+256GB, 'quasi-new' 7-day unit) is priced at 7,199 yuan on the official refurbished WeChat store, compared with 9,999 yuan on Samsung's official mall and 9,499 yuan on JD's self-operated store. The Z Fold 7 (12GB+256GB) is listed at 9,199 yuan refurbished, versus 13,999 yuan official and 11,499 yuan on JD. These refurbished stores are operated by Samsung's long-time partner Totem, and purchases can enjoy free value-added benefits like screen insurance and battery replacement services.

Huawei has restored its official refurbished section in the VMALL mall, where products are described as 99-new 7-day units, using original parts and offering 7-day no-reason returns, 15-day exchange for quality issues, and a one-year warranty. The Mate XT tri-fold phone (16GB+512GB, black) sells for 14,999 yuan refurbished, compared to 19,999 yuan new. However, pricing is not always advantageous: the Pura 80 Ultra (gold, 16GB+512GB) is listed at 5,999 yuan refurbished, while the same new model on JD's self-operated store costs 5,514 yuan without gifts, making the refurbished unit more expensive than a brand-new one.

Several other brands also refreshed their official refurbished programs. Honor's official refurbished zone on its mall lists products like the Magic7, Magic6, MagicV2 and the 300 and 400 series digital phones, with similar 99-new claims and warranty policies. OPPO's official second-hand channel, operated by partner 'Danghuan', now covers JD, Taobao, Pinduoduo and Douyin, offering unopened or slightly used units with a distinctive battery health promise — free battery replacement if capacity drops below 80% within a year. But price competitiveness varies: the Find N6 foldable (16GB+512GB) is about 10,049 yuan with a charger, close to the 10,999 yuan new price, and the Find X9 Ultra (12GB+512GB) at 7,449 yuan is actually more expensive than the new unit's national-subsidy price of 6,999 yuan.

Microsoft's certified refurbished Surface store now has very limited stock. Only the Surface Pro (11th gen) is available with discounts; a 10-core Snapdragon model with 16GB/256GB is selling at 5,172 yuan, about half the 9,278 yuan original price. Dell's Outlet no longer sells directly but directs customers to three authorized Pinduoduo shops. One store lists an Alienware 16X gaming laptop (U7-255HX, RTX 5060, 16GB/1TB) at 11,427 yuan refurbished, while a new model with a slightly upgraded CPU and OLED display costs nearly 18,000 yuan. Lenovo closed its official refurbished portal, but ThinkPad refurbished products remain available through authorized agents on e-commerce platforms; some models show only marginal savings. ASUS's official mall has just a few refurbished SKUs, with prices not significantly better than new units after subsidies. Thunderobot operates a refurbished flagship store on Pinduoduo, though specific pricing details were not highlighted in the report.

The report advises buyers to verify store qualifications and authorization before purchasing, as prices may vary due to coupons and promotions. It also notes that many 'official refurbished' listings are actually operated by partners like Totem for Samsung and Danghuan for OPPO, but the warranty and service terms are still officially backed.
