One UI 9 Beta 6 adds toggle to stop accidental AI Select triggers on Galaxy S26

Samsung's One UI 9 Beta 6 for Galaxy S26 introduces a 'Touch and hold for AI select' toggle, letting users prevent accidental screen freezes from Edge Panel gestures.

Users had complained on Samsung Community forums about frequent accidental triggers since Samsung tied the long-press action of the Edge Panel handle directly to AI Select. Lingering too long while swiping out the Edge Panel would freeze the screen and invoke the selection overlay. Previously, there was no way to disable the long-press gesture without disabling Edge Panels entirely.

The new toggle is located under Settings > Display > Edge panels, Android Authority reported. When enabled, it preserves the existing behavior, where long-pressing the Edge Panel peek window triggers AI Select. When disabled, long-pressing the Edge Panel peek window does nothing, which should eliminate unintended triggers.

The feature remains available to users who switch off the long-hold gesture: AI Select can still be assigned as a dedicated shortcut icon inside the Edge Panel, so the functionality is not completely lost.

AI Select is Samsung's Galaxy AI revamp of the legacy Smart Select tool. It overlaps with Google's Circle to Search, allowing users to select any portion of the screen, extract editable text through Writing Assist, create animated GIFs from video, or send cropped images into Generative Edit and Drawing Assist.
