OpenAI Adds College Planner and Study Tools to ChatGPT for Teens

OpenAI is adding a College Planner and new study tools to ChatGPT for Teens, starting soon in the US.

The planner is designed as a destination students can return to as they apply to several schools, updating their progress, using a timeline to plan ahead and seeing what is left to do, OpenAI said. Students can also ask ChatGPT questions along the way, from what a requirement means to how to get started, according to the company.

OpenAI said the College Planner will arrive "soon." In the United States, it will initially focus on students in grades 10 through 12 who plan to attend a four-year college. ChatGPT for Teens was introduced in August with safeguards and break reminders.

OpenAI is also updating ChatGPT with features aimed at studying. On iOS, users can now capture multiple photos continuously, upload them together and turn them into a single PDF, and ChatGPT will be able to generate flashcards from a user's notes, The Verge reported.

The announcement came shortly after Common Sense Media published a report calling ChatGPT for Teens an "unacceptable risk." The report said the tool "still does kids' homework" and does not send alerts to parents when it should. In its announcement, OpenAI said that, on average, teenagers spend "under 15 minutes a day" using ChatGPT.
