OpenAI Adds Voice-Agent Workflows to ChatGPT Mobile

OpenAI adds voice-agent tools to ChatGPT mobile, letting paid users draft documents and summarize Slack, plus GPT-6 voice models.

TechCrunch reported that Plus and Pro users can use the Work tab on their phones to create a document, draft an email or summarize Slack messages. Those paid users can also build sites, create presentations, use the cloud browser and access areas such as finances in ChatGPT, OpenAI said. Free and Go users will get to work with plugins and connected apps.

OpenAI said voice conversations will have richer text output, and users will be able to switch easily between text and voice. Users can also start a conversation on mobile and resume it on desktop, the company said.

9to5Mac reported that OpenAI is rolling out improvements to ChatGPT Voice in three areas. ChatGPT Voice can now be powered by OpenAI's three GPT-6 models. Astra, the most capable, has been available for a few weeks, while Sol and Luna, the new medium and small intelligence models, were upgraded to GPT-6 the previous day, according to the report.

Plugins now work with ChatGPT Voice, including integrations such as email, calendar and Slack, 9to5Mac reported. That was a major disconnect for ChatGPT Voice users before. ChatGPT Voice also now works with ChatGPT Work on the web and mobile, OpenAI's cloud-connected agentic system that works across places, the report said.

The update follows OpenAI's July launch of its conversational model GPT-Live and its later integration with the desktop app, which let users complete tasks in the Work tab or build apps in the Codex tab by voice, TechCrunch reported. 9to5Mac described the July move as bringing modern voice control to the ChatGPT desktop app.

Competitor Anthropic recently made handoff between mobile and desktop easier and merged its Cowork and Chat interface, TechCrunch reported. OpenAI is still keeping chat and workspaces separate.
