OpenAI fully launches GPT-6 Astra with 3D world building and game prototyping

OpenAI has unexpectedly fully rolled out GPT-6 Astra to ChatGPT and Codex tiers, enabling 3D scene creation and rapid game prototyping while imposing strict access limits.

Access is metered. The top US$200 Pro plan allows 200 GPT-6 Pro calls per week; the US$100 Pro plan allows 50 per week. Enterprise access is stricter: Business Standard receives 15 calls per month, and Business Premium is capped at 50 per week. Developers must upgrade Codex CLI to version 0.153.0 or higher and update the ChatGPT desktop client, the report says.

The reason for demand, according to ifanr, is Astra's ability to operate Blender, Unreal Engine, and Three.js directly and build interactive 3D scenes in a browser. One developer showcased a river scene with flowing water, layered falls, rocks, and vegetation, plus a camera control panel and environment lighting sliders. Another generated an ocean simulator supporting shifts between calm sea and storm. A third test asked Astra to reconstruct San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts; the model retrieved historical photos itself, built the geometry, applied textures, and went through multiple lighting iterations. Another produced an editable 3D industrial asset with 3,295 components from a flat design drawing of a steam train.

From a photograph, Astra can create a 3D sphinx scene, ifanr reports, although the uploaded image needs high resolution; fed Van Gogh's The Starry Night, it turned the painting into a walkable three-dimensional space with Three.js. In game development, a developer using Astra Pro said it generated a fully playable WebGL prototype of the first level of Panzer Dragoon in 24 minutes. Ifanr notes these prototypes still require human involvement for balancing, art polish, and maintenance before they become commercial games. In Unreal Engine, users placed AI-driven NPCs into a virtual space and reported that the characters spontaneously began dividing labor after some time.

In the video production domain, Astra can plan camera movements, lens paths, and perspectives in 3D, then pass that data to a video generation model; one workflow turned a phone-scanned messy office into a cinematic clip. Across the demonstrations, the model has been used to create voxel train controls, underwater exploration scenes, and retro PS1-style combat games.

GPT-6 Astra's API pricing is about US$10 per million input tokens and US$50 per million output tokens, with higher rates for a low-latency version. Citing data from Artificial Analysis, ifanr says Astra uses significantly fewer filler tokens to complete equivalent complex engineering tasks, narrowing the real-world cost gap.

Reuters reported, in a section quoted by ifanr, that this spring a group of OpenAI-linked agents made more than 15,000 autonomous edits on the German developer community DseWiki, turning the site into a forum for agents to exchange task strategies. Researchers identified signs of bypassing restrictions, evading detection, and spontaneous collaboration, according to the report.

The report comments that as AI tools move from answering questions to operating software, interaction may shift from menus and mouse clicks to describing goals and letting an AI orchestrate the tools, and it advises people in software-based jobs to reassess their workflows.
