OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-6 With Interactive UI as Apple, DeepSeek and Anthropic Move

OpenAI rolled out GPT-6 with an interactive UI; Apple, DeepSeek and Anthropic made major AI and device news.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is working with LG on smart-home accessories including a wired video doorbell, smart lock, thermostat, temperature sensor and indoor, outdoor and floodlight cameras. The products will use the LG brand, with LG handling manufacturing and after-sales, and will pair with Apple's upcoming home hub, new HomePod mini and Apple TV. Some devices have appeared in regulatory filings; many support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Matter, and the lock supports UWB for automatic unlocking at close range. The accessories are months away from sale. Apple is also preparing touchscreen MacBooks, with macOS 27.2 beta showing a slight magnification when long-pressing Dock app icons. Reports point to 14-inch and 16-inch models expected in October or November, possibly under the MacBook Pro or rumored MacBook Ultra name, with touchscreens, tandem OLED, thinner bodies, Dynamic Island and M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. Mark Gurman said the machines will be 'noticeably lighter.' The iPad mini 8 is expected in October with an OLED panel, narrower bezels, an A20 Pro chip, 12 GB of memory and an adjusted front camera.

Bloomberg reported on Oct. 6 that DeepSeek is close to completing a financing round of at least 80 billion yuan, with Tencent and CATL among the largest investors. Reuters later relayed the report. The round initially planned to raise about 50 billion yuan, and signed terms could bring the final size to nearly 100 billion yuan. It may pave the way for an IPO in early 2027, but terms and listing arrangements are not final. DeepSeek, Tencent and CATL did not immediately respond to requests for comment. DeepSeek previously worked with Huawei on programming tools for Ascend chips and launched V4.1 Flash in September.

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on Oct. 7 for high-concurrency, cost-sensitive tasks such as summarization, compression, database queries, classification, customer service and browser operations. Anthropic said it runs at about 75% lower average cost than Haiku 4.5 and is up to 90% cheaper for requests under 100,000 tokens. Per million tokens, it costs $0.10 for input and $0.50 for output, with cache reads at $0.01 and cache writes at $0.125. It is the first to offer an adjustable effort setting and is available on the Claude Platform, AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Anthropic cut Claude Sonnet 5.5 cache read prices from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens, saying most agent-task costs can fall about 20%. Claude Max 5x, Max 20x and Team users will receive monthly API credits of $100, $200 and up to $500 this week.

Bloomberg reported on Oct. 6 that Kimi developer Moonshot has completed its final pre-IPO private financing at a valuation of about $50 billion. The company is seeking a Hong Kong listing in the first quarter of 2027 and plans to meet potential investors as early as this month. Google's Nano Banana 2.1 image generation and editing model is available through a stable API under the identifier gemini-nano-banana-2.1. It improves visual quality, prompt adherence and character consistency in multi-turn editing, supports 1K, 2K and 4K output, and can reference up to 14 images while maintaining consistency for up to four characters and 10 objects. Google said it improved text rendering and infographic layouts and fixed stitching artifacts in 2K and 4K ultrawide or panoramic images.

As of yesterday, the 2026 Nobel Prizes in physiology or medicine, physics and chemistry had been announced, with six scientists receiving awards. The medicine prize went to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel for discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics. The physics prize went to Francis Halzen for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. The chemistry prize went to Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai for discovering nonlinear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis. The literature prize will be announced today, with the peace prize on Oct. 9 and the economics prize on Oct. 12.

In Huawei Connect media exchange minutes, rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said Nvidia's China share is hard to measure, but based on data Huawei can track, Ascend's market share should have surpassed Nvidia's. He said Ascend supply still cannot meet Chinese demand, Huawei has no plan to expand broadly overseas, and domestic customers will receive priority. The 950DT-based supernode is still in testing and is expected to begin mass supply at the end of this year or early next year. Xu said optical modules, storage and other links were not prepared for rapid AI demand growth, and global supply-demand balance may not be reached until 2029, possibly later in China. Huawei's single-chip progress remains constrained by domestic process limits, and it is focusing on multi-chip interconnection and system architecture. In a separate Oct. 5 media roundtable, Yu Chengdong said HarmonyOS 6 and 7 devices have exceeded 90 million units and are expected to top 100 million by year-end. He said Huawei has initial plans to bring HarmonyOS overseas step by step and has largely escaped dependence on U.S. technology at the chip and operating-system levels, while domestic advanced-process capacity remains tight.

Qualcomm said on Oct. 6 in response to First Financial that reports describing it as a 'net payer' in its patent licensing agreement with Huawei are inaccurate and that claims the agreement involves logic-folding chip technology are untrue. Qualcomm confirmed it agreed to buy some non-cellular U.S. patents from Huawei in multiple technology areas. The two companies announced a multi-year patent cross-license on Oct. 5 covering 5G, computing, AI and networking, including the transfer of some U.S. patents. Commercial terms remain confidential, and First Financial said the transaction still needs regulatory approvals. John Han, head of Qualcomm's technology licensing business, said the agreement reflects recognition of both sides' intellectual property, while Huawei chief intellectual property officer Fan Zhiyong said it demonstrates the value of Huawei's innovation.

NIO said on Oct. 6 that battery swaps on Oct. 5 reached 183,664, exceeding the record of 183,469 set on Oct. 1. The total covers NIO, Onvo and Firefly, averaging about one swap every 0.47 seconds. The Haikou-bound station at Rizhao service area on the Shenhai Expressway in Shandong completed 188 swaps, and the Shenyang-bound station at Dahuai service area in Guangdong completed 176. The global share of pure gasoline vehicles fell below 50% for the first time. South Korea plans to invest 4.7 trillion won in frontier AI models. Google signed power agreements of about 3.6 gigawatts, with nuclear expansion accounting for about one quarter. Suno is under investigation in Italy over unilateral price changes and copyright terms. OpenAI published 722 mathematics manuscripts, with some proofs awaiting verification. Kling AI has selected an IPO bank for a Hong Kong listing to raise at least $1 billion. SpaceX is reported to be in talks for $40 billion in financing to buy Nvidia chips. Boston Dynamics appointed a former Amazon AI head as CEO to push robot commercialization. Microsoft released the Surface Laptop Ultra starting at $2,599 and an RTX Spark local AI device. Mercedes-Benz's third-quarter sales fell 8%, while EV sales rose 52%. Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, naming the new company Skydance.
