OpenAI Rolls Out Locked Chats for ChatGPT
OpenAI is rolling out locked chats in ChatGPT, letting users hide selected conversations from history and search.
Locked chats are available to ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users on desktop, web and mobile. The private space is designed to keep sensitive conversations out of view from others who may use the same device, Android Authority reported. It works similarly to the locked folder in Google Photos.
OpenAI says locked chats are not end-to-end encrypted. The feature hides conversations from ordinary views but does not add that level of encryption. Android Authority noted that people may want to keep chatbot conversations private for confidentiality or to avoid embarrassment, as with search history.
The rollout follows the August discovery of evidence that OpenAI was working on a solution for ChatGPT. The feature is now available across ChatGPT's consumer and business tiers and on all listed platforms.
