Opera Relaunches Air Browser With Anti-Distraction Features
Engadget reported that Opera has relaunched its lightweight Air browser with soundscapes, scheduled breathing exercises, neck stretches, new wallpapers and automatic dark mode. The browser also includes an ad blocker and free VPN, and remains free on Windows and macOS.
The relaunch adds built-in audio and wellness tools. Air Soundscapes provides a soundtrack split into four moods: Focus, Relax, Work and Ambience. The Ambience setting plays tranquil sounds of forests and the sea. Opera has also added breathing exercises that users can schedule to appear at chosen intervals, along with neck stretches that users can follow.
Air is still designed to be streamlined, so users must manually add apps to the sidebar. Opera has added wallpapers that it says incorporate open spaces, perspective and natural textures to make browsing more serene. The browser also now has an automatic dark mode.
Because it is meant to resist the distractions of the web, Air includes a built-in ad blocker and a free VPN. It interfaces with ChatGPT, but that sidebar option is unchecked by default. Engadget reported that the new soundtracks and breathing exercises are designed to encourage mindful browsing rather than pulling users into time-draining sites such as Reddit.
The updated version builds on the first Air browser Opera introduced in early 2025 as a mindful alternative to the chaos of the internet. The browser keeps the same lightweight approach and is available at no cost on Windows and macOS.
