OPPO Said to Be Developing a 16:9 Wide-Format Flagship Phone
OPPO is reportedly developing a 16:9 wide-format flagship phone with 1mm symmetrical bezels and a roughly 81mm-wide body, joining a wider-screen push so far led by foldables.
The device is said to use LIPO technology to produce symmetrical bezels about 1mm thick, and to measure roughly 81mm across. The report gave no launch timeline, and details of pricing, availability or the phone's other specifications were not included.
A 16:9 panel matches the aspect ratio used by most YouTube videos. On current handsets held in landscape, such video typically appears with black bars on either side, and zooming in to fill the screen cuts off parts of the picture. A screen with the same proportions as the content would display it without either compromise. Android Authority reported that the wider display could also improve gaming.
Wider displays have been spreading through the market after Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Apple then took a similar approach with the iPhone Duo, followed by Xiaomi's 18 Fold and Motorola's Razr Flex. Each of those devices is a foldable, while OPPO's rumored phone would reportedly be a conventional flagship rather than a foldable.
The claim rests on a single Weibo post from Digital Chat Station, relayed by Android Authority, and has not been confirmed by OPPO. No official images, screen specifications or release information have been published, and the reported launch timeline remains unknown.
