Oracle Executive Says Agentic AI Raises Identity and Database Security Demands

Oracle's Johnnie Konstantas said agentic AI is forcing security teams to automate more, inventory sensitive data and AI development, and strengthen identity controls for agents, according to SiliconANGLE.

Security operations teams are changing their approach in the world of artificial intelligence, adopting automation while maintaining the right context and control, the report said. The transition is complicated by the need to identify the proper role for AI and find the right blend of human tradecraft and autonomous decision-making. Database security providers such as Oracle are working with customers to support AI innovation, particularly the adoption of agentic AI, without compromising data security.

“Customers are leaning in,” Konstantas said. “They understand that they have to automate where they can. It’s really understanding where the sensitive assets exist and … where in the company AI is being built, particularly agentic AI. That inventory is extremely important.”

A recent analysis of the Black Hat USA cybersecurity conference by theCUBE Research found that the security industry is paying particular attention to AI agents and their growing role in enterprise operations, leading to a stronger focus on identity, according to the interview. Konstantas said agentic AI brings forward the idea that an agent and several sub-agents functioning as a proxy of an individual can access data.

“So, identity takes on a new form in that the agent is kind of carrying those permissions along to access and maybe even take action on a certain workflow,” he said. “Have good identity in place to the extent that you can have it be uniform and pervasive.”

Oracle has integrated agentic AI solutions into its security portfolio, Konstantas said. The best solutions are often based on a customer’s data and how they want to secure it. “I like to start with customers with what’s in it for them rather than the Oracle solution,” he said. “What are you trying to accomplish? Where is your sensitive data? As we look at the data itself, there’s a whole spate of capabilities that we’ve introduced, particularly with the latest version of … the AI database, that are specifically geared toward agentic AI.”

The complete video interview is part of SiliconANGLE’s and theCUBE’s coverage of Oracle’s event. TheCUBE is a paid media partner for the event, and neither Oracle nor other sponsors have editorial control over content on theCUBE or SiliconANGLE, according to the disclosure accompanying the interview.
