Pet Shop Boys' A Man from the Future to Air on BBC Radio and Stream on BBC Sounds

The album was first performed for the BBC Proms in 2014 and has been revised to give it a more electric feel, with help from original orchestrator Sven Helbig. The synth-pop duo Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant are behind the record. Across eight tracks, the Pet Shop Boys examine Turing's brilliance, his impact on the world, and his persecution because of his sexuality.

On BBC Radio 6 Music, Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone will broadcast the new album in its entirety from 8pm to 10pm BST. Maconie will be joined by Lowe, Tennant, and Turing biographer Professor Andrew Hodges to discuss the creative process of bringing the Enigma story to life through electronic and orchestral song. Later, BBC Radio 3's Unclassified show will feature the recording from 11.30pm to 12.30am. Presenter Elizabeth Alker will interview the same trio about the 2014 original and its update 12 years later.

The recording includes the Manchester Camerata Octet, the Manchester Grammar School Choir, BAFTA nominee Juliet Stevenson as narrator, and other backing vocalists. Lowe and Tennant are listed on original programming, keyboards, and vocals.

BBC Sounds will carry the album on demand for 30 days after the first broadcast. Listeners in the UK can also hear it live on BBC Radio 6 Music at 8pm BST and on BBC Radio 3 at 11.30pm BST on October 4.

TechRadar reports that the album will be confined to British radio and BBC Sounds, so it will not be available to stream on BBC Sounds in the United States, Canada, or Australia. A limited workaround for live BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 3 broadcasts is available through the BBC.com website, according to TechRadar. The publication also says access to BBC Sounds from outside the UK is geo-blocked and that a VPN can be used to access it, assuming broadcaster terms and conditions are not breached. TechRadar recommends NordVPN and notes a 75% discount.
