Philadelphia Woman Arrested for Blocking Uber Delivery Robot
Carolyn Marvin was arrested in Philadelphia for blocking an Uber delivery robot, The Verge reports.
Police responded and asked Marvin to move. When she refused, officers placed her in handcuffs and arrested her, The Verge reported. The incident was captured on video and has received media coverage.
Marvin told Philadelphia’s ABC13 that she had been protesting the robots because she believes they are taking jobs from human delivery workers. “I know they’re taking the jobs of human delivery workers and so, I have been protesting them whenever I saw them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward,” she said, according to The Verge.
Delivery robots have become a common sight on downtown Philadelphia streets and have provoked backlash. The Verge reported that this was not Marvin’s first encounter with the machines, and that earlier this year one was kicked over in Center City.
The arrest comes amid broader concern about how autonomous systems—including robotaxis, delivery robots and AI agents—affect jobs, particularly for lower-skill workers.
