Philips Hue unveils Play Screen Sync camera and 4K HDMI Sync Box

The Hue Play Screen Sync camera costs $119.99. It uses a fisheye lens to capture the full content playing on a TV in real time and feeds that information to compatible smart lights in the room. The plug-and-play accessory has automatic calibration and only needs to be placed above the TV.

Because it analyzes the screen rather than an HDMI feed, the Screen Sync camera is not limited to content delivered over an HDMI cable. Android Authority reports that it can detect anything on the display, which makes it more versatile than an HDMI sync box.

The Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 4K is priced at $149.99. It has a slimmer profile, one HDMI input, one HDMI output, and supports 4K content at up to 60 frames per second.

Android Authority said the launch effectively makes the Hue Play Sync Box 8K the only Sync Box option for users who need multiple HDMI inputs. The 8K model costs more than twice as much as the new 4K model.
