PIA Adds 10 Server Locations, Says Network Now Spans 170 Locations

Private Internet Access added 10 server locations across the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, following 15 additions in September. The company says its network now covers 170 locations in 104 countries, though independent tracking points to 176 in 112.

The new locations are Bermuda; Brooklyn, New York; the Dominican Republic; Honduras; Puerto Rico; Trinidad and Tobago; Ghana; Kenya; Lebanon; and Woolloomooloo in Sydney, Australia. The additions follow 15 new locations introduced in September 2026 and form part of a broader effort to expand and improve the company's server network.

PIA said some of the new locations use virtual servers. "Virtual server locations allow us to offer our users more locations while ensuring they meet our strict privacy and security standards," the company said in its announcement. Virtual servers are used by all major consumer VPNs and are considered as safe and reliable as on-site servers when properly managed.

Earlier expansions focused on the Caribbean, Central and Southeast Asia, along with new dedicated streaming servers in Europe and the Americas, according to TechRadar, which reported the announcement.

PIA says the recent additions bring its network to 170 locations across 104 countries and territories. TechRadar's independent tracking, however, suggests the figure is higher: 176 server locations in 112 countries. TechRadar said its count matches what PIA's own Windows app displays, indicating the company's press release understates the scale of its recent expansion.

Like most consumer VPNs, PIA's network is weighted toward North America and Europe, with 69 locations in the former and 50 in the latter, according to TechRadar's count. Asia follows with 33 locations, while South America, Oceania and Africa have nine, eight and seven respectively.

Despite the expansion, PIA remains behind industry leaders in location count. NordVPN offers 225 locations in 150 countries and ExpressVPN 196 locations in 113 countries, TechRadar reported.

Server coverage matters for several common uses. Users who stream high-definition video over a VPN typically look for dedicated streaming servers, and travelers seeking access to content from other countries favor providers with many locations worldwide. Multiple servers within the same country or region also give users alternatives when one connection slows or goes offline.

PIA is positioned as a budget-friendly option for users seeking privacy tools and customization. TechRadar said the continued expansion of its network makes the service easier to recommend to a wider range of users, although it has not yet entered the publication's main list of best VPNs.
